This was an ideal month for stock bulls. Starting on March 31, the stock indexes surged higher with one of the sharpest rallies we have seen in a long time. There were very few days when the market traded below the previous day's low. There were rarely any pullbacks intra-day and when there was, the market reversed pretty quickly.
From a daily chart perspective, you don't see better trends than this.
Intra-day price action can be very different than what you imagine when looking at the daily chart. There was very little mean reversion during the day session. One of our top strategies V-Reversal had one of its worse months based on the trading model since it depends on mean reversion.
Some of the biggest gains and streaks came after similar losing months and streaks.
Monthly Hypotheticals for V-Reversal
The current streak is similar to the streak in September and October of 2025 before it went on a streak. September and October 2025 had some extremely "straight up" trends on the daily chart as well. We know that markets don't typically trend with this level of persistence. A market can have big gains in a month and still have more of a balance of market cycles intra-day that include mean reversion.
V-Reversal took 28 trades with 9 winners and 19 losers. The short side included 3 winning trades out of 18 trades while the long side was 6 winning trades out of 10 trades.
It was difficult to capture even a 100 point mean reversion day trade in 4600-point one month rally in the Nasdaq 100 futures. Even if the bull continues, I doubt this is the new norm.
