Weekly Portfolio Trading System Results 01/21/2018 - 01/26/2018

Posted by David Bean on

We include the weekly portfolio trading system results for the week ending on January 26, 2018. Similar to last week, the 25K was up on the week while the 100K and One Million were down slightly. The 25K Portfolio is up on the month with a nice gain while the 100K and One Million are slightly down after slippage and commission.

US Dollar talk out of Davos, Switzerland made the trade challenging this week. We were on pace for a nice week on Thursday with a couple of Euro Currency longs. The big reversal on strong dollar talk was the disappointment of the week while the metals were the strong point of the week.

Friday was the first day in 95 days (since September 11, 2017) that the E-mini S&P had a net change of more than 1% in either direction. This is a new record in the S&P futures.  The last time a streak this long occurred in the cash index was 1995. The NYSE TICK still has not gone above the +1000 reading after the first 15 minutes of trade since August 25, 2017.

The stock market's slow melt up yesterday (+32.75 in the E-mini S&P) had the  Advance Decline Difference only showing +308 at the end of the day and not really indicative of strong buying. The NYSE TICK was the same way showing a high of +655 in the last hour with median readings around 200. It was very controlled buying to keep algorithmic buy signals from triggering. None of our strategies when long as even Tick Pulse, which isn't in the portfolio, did not take a trade. There were no dips to buy. To participate yesterday, you would have just had to go long or buy the new high (which is not typically a profitable approach in the E-mini S&P).

The results below are hypothetical results based on the trading system signals. We trade the strategies and portfolios but we don't trade all systems, all of the time, and do use some discretion when determining which strategies to trades. We also do take additional discretionary trades. Some of the trading system trades shown may be taken while other trades may not be taken, based on our discretion. For this reason, the information here should be considered informational and educational and can represent how our trading software operates on different platforms.

For the purpose of this blog post, since we do use discretion in our live trading: All trades presented are NOT LIVE TRADED IN A LIVE ACCOUNT and should be considered hypothetical.
