SR CounterTrend II Long and Short

Posted by David Bean on

I wanted to setup SR CounterTrend II to have the same parameters on all markets. I found a way to do this by using different entry parameters for longs and shorts. I only used two different parameters for the long side than I did on the short side. I changed Percent Range and Length. It is common knowledge that markets go down and move different for long trades than on short trades.

The basis for this change is that we are more selective on short trades as they take longer to develop (Length is 30 for shorts instead of 20 for Longs) but once they do develop, we enter more quickly (Percent Range is .3 for Shorts instead of .5 for Longs).

Another goal we wanted to accomplish was to balance the results between long and short trades. We wanted the number of trades as well as the average trade profit to be more closely balanced between longs and shorts. We were able to accomplish this goal well! We tested this on 1 minute, 5 minute, and 15 minute charts with really nice results shown in the video and screen shots below the video. as well as additional strategy design notes.

The test is in the MultiCharts Portfolio Backtester using $25 round turn slippage and commission. You can trade this setup in Tradestation, NinjaTrader, or MultiCharts platforms with an ALL Markets subscription.

In order to do this, you have to have some coding updates as well. If you have this strategy, we are going to send you the long/short update after some more testing to verify this beyond just the Portfolio Backtester. The tests should hold up.

Our new One Million Dollar Portfolio will include the original SR CounterTrend II Portfolio as well as the 1m, 5m, and 15m version of this SR CounterTrend II Portfolio and also include the strategies in the 100K Portfolio. It will include 44 different trading windows/strategy variations. 4 variations for each of the 9 markets on SR CounterTrend II and 8 additional market setups on the 100K. (since 2 of the current 100K strategies include SR CounterTrend II already.) Anxious to finish testing this!

*As an additional note, the Long and Short Stop Losses and Profit Targets are slightly different in this setup and we commented out the ExTime and set the strategy to Exit at the open of the last bar based on calculating the last bar time. We commented out StartTime and FinishTime to trade if the time is less than the last bar time by calculating the last bar time based on the custom session. We had to do this so that we won't have different time parameters based on different custom sessions for each market.
